The leader of the Orchestra: Siegfried Westphal
Siegfried Westphal first studied the cello in Detmold. He continued with his master’s studies in Sion, Switzerland under Marcio Carneiro; and in Barcelona, Spain under Luis Clarét. Since 1987, he has taught the cello at the music school in Bünde; and concurrently, from 1992 to 1999, he also taught in Hameln.
Mr. Westphal studied orchestra management while taking conducting courses from Karl-Heinz Bloemeke, in Detmold; from Constantin Alex, in Berlin; and, additionally, during a summer academy at a masterclass with Kurt Masur.
Other than teaching the cello, Mr. Westphal also conducts the symphony orchestra of the music school in Bünde, with which he went on a concert tour to Voiron, France, in 1994. In 1997, he took over the management and conducting of the Young Philharmonic Orchestra. The annual working phases have since resulted in widely appreciated performances in large concert halls in the region.
Since 1998, he also conducts the Symphonic Orchestra of the Schaumburger Landschaft.
In 1999, he started conducting the orchestra of the music school in Herford where he started its annual children's musical.
From 2009 until 2012 Siegfried Westphal studied at the highschool for music in Detmold music-education and music-management and finished it with the master of music.
In 2012 he also finished the education for music-school-leaders at the Bundesakademie Trossingen.
Since 2013 he is the chairman of the regional society of music artists (Deutscher Tonkünstlerverband, DTKV) for Ostwestfalen-Lippe.
